Why Resize a GIF Instead of Only Compressing It?
Fit a Layout or Platform
Chat apps, docs and CMS themes often want a specific width. Set it exactly instead of letting the page scale an oversized GIF down in the browser.
Fewer Pixels, Smaller File
File size grows with pixel count, so halving the width usually saves more than color tweaks alone. The exact saving depends on the animation.
Timing Stays Intact
Frame delays and loop count are kept as they are. Enlarging a GIF cannot add detail, so keep upscaling modest.
FAQ
How do I resize a GIF without distorting it?
Leave "Keep aspect ratio" on and type either the width or the height; the other side is calculated for you. Turn it off only when you want to stretch the animation.
Is my GIF uploaded when I resize it?
No. The resize runs in your browser with a WebAssembly build of Gifsicle, so the file never leaves your device.
