Why Crop a GIF Instead of Resizing It?
Cut Away What You Don't Need
Screen recordings and clips often carry empty margins, black bars or toolbars. Cropping removes them from every frame so the subject fills the picture.
Fit a Shape
Use the 1:1, 16:9, 4:3 and 9:16 buttons to select the largest centered area with that shape, then adjust X and Y to move it. Handy for avatars, slides and stories.
A Smaller File Follows
File size grows with pixel count, so fewer pixels usually means a smaller GIF. Cropping does not rescale what is left; for more savings, compress the result afterwards.
FAQ
How do I crop an animated GIF?
Choose your GIF, drag a box over the part you want to keep on the preview (or type X, Y, width and height), then press "Crop GIF". Every frame is cut to the same area.
Does cropping change the speed or quality of the GIF?
Frame timing stays the same, and the pixels inside your selection are kept as they are rather than rescaled. The result is also optimized without loss, so the file is often smaller too.
Is my GIF uploaded when I crop it?
No. The crop runs in your browser with a WebAssembly build of Gifsicle, so the file never leaves your device.
